2020 Instructions

Year 2020 Funding Opportunities

The LLHF is pleased to continue supporting the many extraordinary research scientists in the State of California through its multi-year grant awards. In January 2020 the Larry L. Hillblom Foundation will accept LOIs for new Network Grants and full applications for new Start-Up and Fellowship Grants.

Application Instructions

All 2020 LLHF Grant Applications must be submitted via electronic file upload using our online grant management system.

Grant applications need to be formatted and submitted online as a single Adobe PDF file. Publications should be uploaded separately (please see the specific instructions for details). The forms and instructions for preparing your grant application can be obtained using the links below. Hard copies will not be accepted.

Schedule for the 2020 Application Process:

Network Grants:
  • Network Grant Letters of Inquiry (LOIs) must be submitted online by Friday, January 31, 2020.
  • LOIs which merit an invitation for full application will be announced in early June 2020.
  • Full applications must be submitted online by Friday, August 14, 2020 (revised date as of June 2020).
  • Funding decisions will be announced in November 2020.
  • Successful applicants will be funded in January of 2021.

Start-Up and Fellowship Grants:
  • Full applications must be submitted online by Friday, January 31, 2020.
  • Funding decisions will be announced in early June 2020.
  • Successful applicants will be funded in July of 2020.

The site will begin to accept new user accounts and LOI / application submissions on Monday, December 16, 2019.

Preparing and Submitting a Grant Application

  1. Prepare your grant application using the form templates and grant instructions (Network Grant  - Start-Up Grant - Fellowship Grant) provided.
  2. Create an account on this system (the site will begin to accept new user accounts on Monday, December 16, 2019) or log in with your existing account. The Foundation requires that this account be created using the name and email address of the principal investigator (in the case of fellowships, not the mentor, the postdoc that is applying).
  3. Follow the online instructions to upload and submit your application in the My Grant area of the site.
